Under the updated EYFS 2025 framework,
At least one staff member with a current Paediatric First Aid (PFA) certificate must be on-site at all times and accompany children on outings.
Staff holding Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualifications since 30 June 2016 must obtain a PFA certificate within three months of starting work to count in the required staff-to-child ratios, and all certificates must be renewed every three years.
Providers should ensure the number of trained staff matches the setting’s size and layout, and display or make available staff PFA certificates for parents.
Courses must meet Annexe A criteria and can be provided by approved trade bodies, voluntary aid societies, or Ofqual-regulated providers following HSE guidance.
